Story: There All the Honor Lies
Written By: Peter David
Season: 2
Sheridan gets mugged and than runs into an altercation with a Minbari, which results in the Minbari getting killed. Sheridan claims self defense, but there was no weapon on the Minbari and the lone witness is a Minbari who claims that Sheridan did it all unprovoked. It becomes a matter of Sheridan trying to prove his innocence despite claims that Minbari don’t lie. It turns out they can and will lie, if their clan’s honor is at stake. Lennier happens to be of the same clan as the witness, and has to prove he is lying despite it bringing shame to his own clan. Delenn also gets treated pretty shitty by this witness because of her change in appearance.
There are two minor subplots in this episode as well, one involving Ivanova being forced to take charge of a new Babylon 5 gift shop, and the other involving Vir, who is about to be replaced as Londo’s assistant and feels depressed because he is wanted nowhere. The gift shop thing is kinda funny and by the end of the episode is ordered shut down by Sheridan after he discovers a JNohn Sheridan teddy bear is being sold. The Vir story ends with Londo demanding that Vir not be replaced or he would leave Babylon 5 as well. The Vir story was kind of nice, because I like that character and he doesn’t often get much to do.
This was a solid episode that managed to focus on a more serious main story and balance that well with two lighter stories. This is how you handle an ensemble cast, not just make a show focused on one character that we haven’t seen in weeks.
