Story: Each Night I Dream of Home
Written By: J. Michael Straczynski
Season: Crusade
Probably the best episode I have seen of Crusade so far. It focuses on the main storyline of trying to cure the plague, it balances it’s character and actions stories well, and features Dr. Stephen Franklin, an actually likable character who had development and feels so much more well rounded as a person on screen than anyone in Crusade’s cast, particularly Dr. Chambers, who he is paired with for much of this episode.
In this episode we discover that the plague is not a virus, but is actually nanotechnology, which explains how the virus works and why the nanotech used by chambers to create a 48-hour temp inoculation worked as a counter to the virus.
This episode is pretty good, the most entertained I had been by Crusade thus far, because it properly mixed it’s main arc with action and characterization, and advanced that arc logically. It is really the first time this has felt like a show with a purpose other than dragging out the B5 world for no reason.
NEXT TIME: Flashback Alien
