Story: Moments of Transition
Written By: J. Michael Straczynski
Season: 4
The Minbari Civil War is not going well for the Religious caste, surprisingly the WARRIOR caste is wining. Who would’ve guessed that? So Delenn decides it is time to surrender. They meet at an ancient place that was important before the days of Valen, meant to symbolize a return to earlier traditions. But when they get there Delenn surrenders, but says she will not give up their right to form their new government. She says if they are going old school with traditions, then she will bring another one back, one in which the leader of a caste must step into a fucking beaming light that will kill you in order to prove how much you will do for your people. She steps in, but the leader of the Warrior Caste is too much a of a pussy to stay in.
Neroon thought Delenn would follow as planned, but she is going to die a martyr...Neroon decides he won’t let that happen and he jumps in, saves her, tells the people to follow her before he explodes. Minbari is saved, and Delenn forms a new Grey Council, one with only two members from the Religious and Warrior castes, and 5 members of the Worker caste...since they pretty much got shoved into the middle of a civil war between to uppity castes that disregarded them.
So back at the station we have a increasingly desperate Lyta, who is pretty much broke because no one will hire without the help of PsiCorps, and the Vorlons aren’t paying her rent anymore. She is even asked to move to a smaller place on the station. After she refuses an offer from Bester to sort of rejoin the Corps on the down-low (and signing away her body to Bester after she dies), she seeks work from Garibaldi, who does hires her...but he is forced to fire her after his employer finds out about her. Bester also snuck a peak into Garibaldi’s mind to further alienate him from his former friends. Lyta does what Bester wants in the end.
The episode ends with Ivanova going to Sheridan pissed that Clark ordered Earth ships to destroy vessels carrying nothing but civilian patients just trying to get out of War zones. This is the last straw, Sheridan and Ivanova can’t take it anymore. They are heading for Earth to finally end the reign of President Clark.
Great episode that wrapped up the mini-Minbari Civil War arc, furthered the rift with Garibaldi, and set up a new direction for Lyta. The ending scene that leads to War with Earth was quite excellent, as I had been quite ready for it to finally take of.
