Babylon 5 - Season 1 Recap

This first season is a struggle in all honesty.  It has some good episodes...in fact plenty of decent episodes...but truly great episodes a few...and even the decent episodes have the problem of the show’s issues with format (the often mention A and B-plot problem), and some stiff and uninteresting members of the main cast.

I personally never found Sinclair to be all that interesting.  He just seemed to stiff and serious, who wants to watch a show in which the main character isn’t fun or relatable ever?  I’m glad that he decided (with JMS) to not return, because the go just didn’t do it for me.

I did like Londo, G’Kar, Vir, Lennier, Ivanova, and eventually Delenn and Garibaldi...but Talia Winters disappeared for half the season and when she did show up seemed boring and stiff and uninteresting, despite the fact the the whole Psi-Corp storyline is creepy and interesting in itself.

Almost everyone but Ivanova, Garibaldi, and Sinclair spend episodes lost in the mix...and that was why the A/B-plot format sucked this season, because this season needed to focus on character growth and development, to truly set up the major events and plots that would play a bigger role in subsequent seasons...but it fails to do that very often.

Luckily right at the end everyone plays some kind of role in the finale, and the season ended in a way that made me believe that I could continue with the show.  Now it is time for a new leader and a more focused story arc!
