Story: A Distant Star
Written By: J. Michael Straczynski
Season: 2
An old friend of Sheridan arrives on the ship and seems to awaken Sheridan's feelings about still wanting the command of an exploration ship. He feels somewhat stifled in his new position on Babylon 5, and isn't sure taking on this position was a great idea. When his friend's ship gets lost in the rim, Sheridan organizes a risky rescue mission to get the ship back. It is a solid episode written by classic Trek writer D.C. Fontana, and includes some smaller threads like Franklin changing people's diets and Delenn dealing with some fallout on Minbar due to her recent change.
Overall I enjoyed the episode and it's continued hints at the Shadows, which were used quite nicely in the "lost ship" plot. I am pretty sure I was easily won over by Sheridan. I like Boxleitner and I think his portrayal is solid, and it brings a much needed glue to this series which (no disrespect to O'Hare) Sinclair never really brought to the table. He was an okay Captain, but Sheridan isn't as stiff and brings a bit more believable humanity to the forefront, which this show was desperately lacking in the first season (Garibaldi was the only real human character, despite a few moments here and there for Ivanova and Sinclair).
Decent episode, not going to blow you away but it is serviceable and entertaining, with some nice character developments and interactions.
