Story: The Parliament of Dreams
Written By: J. Michael Straczynski
Season: 1
Some more characters are introduced in this episode, like G’Kar and Delenn’s personal aides (Na’Toth and Lennier, respectively) as well as Sinclair’s love interest Catherine Sakai, who would appear periodically throughout the rest of the season.
The episode deals with religions, as the Babylon 5 Festival of Parading Your Beliefs Out to Everyone event is going on. It is an okay episode that gives a better taste of these different species and aspects about them. I personally, being a rather atheist fellow, found it somewhat of a drag that at this point in Earth’s future we still have THAT many religions dragging us down. But then again this isn’t really an idyllic future of Star Trek (a secular paradise for a guy like me), this is a darker vision of things to come, in which Earth is pretty much the same but venturing out into space. Earth remains as flawed as it is now in this future.
The episode also deals with an assassination plot against G’Kar, who is somewhat paranoid about who could be behind it, including his new aide. It is a decent story to keep things moving.
Solid episode I guess, nothing to thrilling for this new watcher here...but decent enough.
