Byron’s Death

Story: Phoenix Rising
Written By: J. Michael Straczynski
Season: 5

The Byron/Telepath story escalates to its explosive (literally) end as Bester’s troops come in to take down the Rogues.  Sheridan still wants to negotiate peace, but the presence of Bester makes that difficult.  Speaking of Bester, Garibaldi goes to kill him, but finds that he is unable to shoot, because his brain is still slightly tweaked by Bester, keeping him from being able to do any harm to Bester.  This is clearly distressing for Garibaldi, to find he still isn’t in complete control of his faculties.
Byron has people on the outside of their barricade, and they are getting violent, eventually taking the MedLab hostage.  This includes a scene that was initially seen inthe Season 4 finale.  Now we have more context for this Hostage situation, and we know who was shot.  Not Garibaldi, but the telepath who was about to shoot...by Byron.  Byron has escaped his own barricade and decided to make sure no more blood is spilt in his name.  He then negotiates with Sheridan to surrender himself and all those who acted violently to the Alliance, as long as Bester and hte Psi Corps are not involved.

This is all going to end peacefully, but Bester shows up just to fuck it all up and everything ends in a shoot-out. The fire fight end, but after explosive chemicals come pouring out of a pipe, Byron decides the only way to end this, is to die himself...and he and some of his followers gather before he shoots the chemicals and explodes.  Bester seems bewildered by the decision, but we all know it’s his fault.  And speaking of his fault...Garibaldi begins drinking again.  Fuck Bester.
