Story: The Very Long Night of Londo Mollari
Written By: J. Michael Straczynski
Season: 5
Londo has a heart attack and is rendered unconscious and near death. In his mind he must come to terms with his dark past in order to finally revive his heart and live. He can’t just want to live...he has to be genuinely sorry for his actions. It is a wonderfully directed episode, with the fluidity of the action in Londo’s head really well done. It moves and the metaphors and images work well for the story that is being told. When Londo finally awakes...he sees the man in his dream he needed to apologize to, and he apologizes in real life to him, to G’Kar.
A smaller subplot involves Lennier leaving the station and Delenn to become a Ranger, feeling his place is no longer on the station or as her aide now that she has married Sheridan. I like the subtle approach they have taken with Lennier’s love of Delenn. It isn’t shoved down your throat, but it has been clear for a while, and occasionally implied or stated in a very subtle roundabout way. Lennier leaves the station, but he will return.
This was a good episode, I like what it did with Londo and how it furthered his remorse for the actions he has taken in the past.
